Today, I watched what I would consider one of the biggest highlights of my entire life...

For my argumentative paper my senior year of high school, I chose the topic of arguing that Disney should continue making traditionally animated fairy tale movies. I won't lie: Even though I thoroughly enjoyed Tangled, I like "The Princess and the Frog" just a little bit better, a huge part due to the movie being traditionally hand-drawn animated. (The other part is that, honestly, Tiana is my favorite Disney princess. She's hard working and determined; she pursues and achieves her ultimate goal because of her tenacity and adaptive personality. I'll admit it: She embodies the workmanship and ethic I wish I could personally; she's a great role model for young girls!)

I won't underestimate CGI; it takes a lot of hard work to create every little aspect, feature, and element. CGI animation can be just as much a gorgeous, highly detailed form of animation as traditional styled animation; it's just personal aesthetic taste on my behalf when I say that I like traditionally hand drawn animation just a little bit better. I've wondered if Tangled's supreme box office success, followed closely by Wreck-It Ralph, would challenge traditional animation altogether; it's a rarity, not necessarily extinct, but a rarity. Then I'm floored by the Mickey Mouse short that comes on before Frozen...

I won't give away what happens, but it's a bright, shining example of the possible future of traditional animation and CGI...I wish I could show my despondent eighteen-year-old self just what sort of unique and unexpected turn animation is starting to take; I know I'm excited!
